GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Two people were shot an hour after and a half mile from the scene of a triple shooting early Monday morning.
The second shooting occurred at 3:20 a.m. in the 100 block of Griggs Street SW near Buchanan Avenue in Grand Rapids.
One of the victims -- a man -- called 911 and said he had been shot, according to a news release. Officers arrived and located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds to their chests.
The victims were taken to a hospital and listed in serious condition.
The person who shot the gun still has not been found and a detailed description of the alleged shooter is not available yet.
The first shooting happened at 2 a.m. near Burton Street and Division Avenue SE, resulting in two people dying and a third being hospitalized.
Most of the people who spoke with 24 Hour News 8 were too afraid to go on camera because they saw what happened but don't know if the gunman saw them. They don't want to be targeted.
But Tito Figueroa lives just a few yards from the second crime scene and said he had a strange premonition.
"I had this dream about a shooting on the corner of Buchanan and Griggs at about 2:02 in the morning, and about an hour later, I hear a shooting. One gunshot," he said.
At that scene, police said, both men were shot in their chests.
"I look out the window and see six cop cars, I see the ambulance, I see the fire department truck there and they pulled somebody out of the corner store," he said. "And he was laying down on the ground there. He was still alive."
This shooting happened a few blocks from the first murder scene.
Neighbors in the Burton/Division area told 24 Hour News 8 three men -- all described as in their mid 20s -- were walking west down Burton Street when a man came up to them -- pulled out a gun and shot them.
The witness said two of the victims tried to run.
Figueroa said he is concerned but not surprised by what happened.
"I'm still worried because this is like every week or every other week I hear gunshots here by the school, around the area," he said. "Yeah, I'm kind of worried about it a little bit."
Figueroa is a grandfather, his neighborhood is full of kids and there is an elementary school at the corner.
"I'm kind of worried about the neighborhood even though I like the house and everything. But I don't know. Maybe in the future I think I'm going to move out of here and go somewhere better."
During the past four years, that service area has seen between one and three murders per year.
Police told 24 Hour News 8 both incidents do not appear to be related.
