MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) - An Arkansas man who authorities say sold live Asian carp in Michigan has pleaded guilty in the case.
The Michigan attorney general's office says 42-year-old David Shane Costner of Harrisburg, Ark., entered the plea Monday in Circuit Court in Midland to a dozen felony charges. Each carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a fine of $2,000 to $20,000. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 1.
A message seeking comment was left Tuesday with defense lawyer David Burgess.
Authorities say Costner sold two grass carp this year in Midland to undercover officers from the state Department of Natural Resources. Investigators say he had been driving around the southern part of the state selling the carp from store parking lots for use in ponds, where they eat nuisance plants.
