Man arrested for Craig's List scam

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. (WOOD) - A Nigerian citizen who was enrolled as a graduate student at Central Michigan University has been arrested for an internet fraud scheme.

The U.S. Secret Service and the Michigan State Police Mt. Pleasant Post arrested Nnamdi Ezeli, 30, for wire fraud on April 10, a crime that could carry a $1 million fine and 30 years in federal prison.

Ezeli is suspected of running a Craig's List scam, where he posted items for sale that he did not actually have in his possession.

Authorities say Ezeli did receive money as payment for the items that the victims never received.

Ezeli was arrested in Union Township in Isabella County, although no local victims were identified.

The majority of victims were found living outside Michigan, in Canada, and across the U.S.

Further investigation revealed that Ezeli was sending most of the money outside of the country.

Ezeli is currently behind bars pending further investigation and judicial action.
