DOUGLAS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A man suffered serious injuries after a commercial firework exploded in his hand.
The blast caused burns to Blaine Kortes' body and left hand. The 42-year-old Stanton man underwent emergency surgery at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Kortes was at a friend's house in the 1300 block of W. Klees Road in Douglas Township when the incident occurred around 7:34 p.m. Tuesday.
Montcalm County sheriff's deputies remind people to use caution when handling fireworks. Fireworks that explode or leave the ground are illegal in Michigan.
