EAST LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) - State Rep. Bob Genetski has been sentenced after being found guilty of drunk driving on the night of the State of the State address.

Genetski (R-Saugatuck) was sentenced Wednesday to 40 hours of community services and fines to the tune of $1,101. He was given credit for completion of the Alcohol Highway Safety Education program and attending the Victim Impact Panel.

Genetski was pulled over by Michigan State University police in East Lansing on Jan. 19 for speeding and having an expired license tab on his vehicle. He was arrested after taking field sobriety tests and refusing to take a Breathalyzer test. A blood test taken at a local hospital revealed Genetski's blood alcohol content (BAC) was .088.

In September, Genetski fought the drunk driving charge in court, but was found guilty after a two-day trial.

Officials at the District court in East Lansing told 24 Hour News 8 Wednesday they didn't know the status of Genetski's driver's license, which is a matter dealt with by the Secretary of State's Office.

Genetski is currently up for re-election in the 80th District.
