EAST LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) - State Rep. Bob Genetski was found guilty of drunk driving by a jury after a two-day trial in East Lansing.
The jury found Genetski was drunk the night he was pulled over by a Michigan State University patrolman for driving with an expired license tab.
Genetski, a Republican from Saugatuck, was arrested Jan. 19 following Gov. Snyder's State of the State address in Lansing. He was pulled over for speeding and having the expired tab, but -- according to the arresting officer -- admitted he'd been drinking and staggered on the sidewalk.
He refused a Breathalzyer test, and was taken to a hospital to have blood drawn for an alcohol test. That test revealed his blood-alcohol content was .088, slightly higher than the legal limit in Michigan.
Genetski challenged the findings. In the trial, his defense centered on scientific procedures and protocol and whether samples can be contaminated.
In closing arguments, the prosecution told the jurors that while no lab is perfect, the lab that processed Genetski's blood sample is regularly tested for accuracy.
Additionally, the dashcam video of his arrest was shown twice during the trial.
