JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - A Jackson woman has been arraigned on a second-degree child abuse charge after police say she left her 2-year-old son home alone while she went to Grand Rapids.
Jacquelyn Jewell was in court Friday before Chief District Judge R. Darryl Mazur and was released from jail on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
Mazur says the 23-year-old Jewell could see her son and daughter if child protective services agrees to allow it and her parents are present during the visit.
Jewell voluntarily gave custody of her son and 5-year-old daughter to her parents. She says she plans to hire a lawyer.
Jewell is expected to appear in court for a preliminary examination on Aug. 31.
She could face up to four years in prison if convicted of the felony charge.
