EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan State University has disciplined a leading crop sciences professor for plagiarism in an article on biofuels in the journal Nature Reviews Genetics.
Mariam Sticklen says she used one paragraph of material from another article but says it was inadvertent. Michigan State has barred her from pay increases and grants for two years.
Sticklen refereed a paper for the journal Plant Science, and material from that then-unpublished article appeared in her own 2008 article. Nature Reviews Genetics has retracted her article.
Michigan State intellectual integrity officer James Pivarnik declines further comment on the case.
The online journal TheScientist.com earlier reported on the plagiarism incident.
