GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Michigan Army National Guard Spc. Cory Fannon of Pierson has been called to support the funeral of former first lady Betty Ford.
Fannon, a member of Charlie Co., 86th BSTB in Wyoming, will serve as door security during the ceremony on Thusday in Grand Rapids.
Guard forces from around the state of Michigan are coordinating efforts with local, state and federal agencies to provide security, transportation, media assistance, VIP escorts, and more, in support of the funeral.
The guardsmen reported during last weekend to the Grand Valley Armory to in-process and to receive their assignments.
Betty Ford's funeral is augmented by the Michigan Army National Guard because there are no active duty military installations in Michigan. The Michigan Army National Guard is proud to support this tasking, paying tribute to the former first lady, according to a news release.
