Betty Ford funeral plans

Begin July 12 in CA; end July 14 in Grand Rapids

PALM DESERT, Calif. (WOOD) - A timeline of funeral services for Betty Ford who passed away July 8 at the age of 93 -- 

Tuesday, July 12

2 p.m. EST -- Casket taken to St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Palm Desert, Calif.; private prayer service with family

5 p.m. EST -- Funeral service at the church; there will be three eulogists -- Rosalynn Carter, Cokie Roberts and Jeffrey Mason; will conclude at 6:30 p.m. EST

The Ford family will return to their residence and the casket will remain at the church

8 p.m. EST -- Public repose will begin in the sanctuary at the church and will conclude around midnight local time

Wednesday, July 13

11 a.m. EST -- The Ford family will proceed to St. Margaret's Episcopal Church

12 p.m. EST -- The motorcade with Betty's casket and her family will depart the church en route to Palm Springs International Airport

12:15 p.m. EST -- The Ford family will depart en route to Michigan

5 p.m. EST -- The Ford family will arrive at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Cascade Township; Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder will meet the family on the tarmac

6 p.m. EST -- The motorcade will proceed to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids; there will be a short arrival service and a brief prayer service; Gov. Snyder will deliver brief remarks on behalf of the people of Michigan

7 p.m. EST -- A public repose in the atrium lobby of the museum and will continue into the night (until 11 p.m.)

Thursday, July 14

7 a.m. EST -- (until 10 a.m.) Public repose continues

12 p.m. EST -- The Ford family will proceed to the museum and spend some time there

1 p.m. EST -- The casket and Ford family will depart by motorcade to Grace Episcopal Church in Grand Rapids

2 p.m. EST -- Funeral service at the church; there will be two eulogists -- Lynne Cheney and Richard Norton Smith; it will conclude at 3:30 p.m.

The casket and Ford family will then proceed by motorcade back to the museum where a private interment service will be conducted with just the family; it will conclude at 5 p.m.

The Desert Sun website reports in lieu of flowers, the Ford family requests donations be sent to four charities: Betty Ford Center Legacy Fund in Palm Desert; the Betty Ford First Ladies Tribute Fund at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation in Grand Rapids, Mich.; the Betty Ford Diagnostic Breast Center in Grand Rapids; or the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens in Vail, Colo.
