SHELBYVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - Dive teams and rescue crews searched Gun Lake on Saturday for a missing Grand Rapids teenager who went under the water. The search resumed Sunday morning.
Jhalak Bhattarai, 17, was out with his family on a boat in Gun Lake Saturday afternoon, family members told 24 Hour News 8.
According to witnesses in the area, two people originally fell off the boat and were struggling in the water around 3:10 p.m. The other individual was immediately rescued from the water and was taken to an area hospital.
Dive teams and rescue crews from various Barry County agencies searched the lake hoping to find Bhattarai, who was not wearing a life vest.
Darkness ended the search on Saturday, but it resumed Sunday morning.
Bhattarai, a sophomore at East Kentwood High School, moved to Grand Rapids from Nepal a few years ago.
