WOODLAND, Mich. (WOOD) - A former Major League Baseball player accused of inappropriately touching girls while volunteering at a West Michigan high school has resigned from all his responsibilities in the district.

Chad Curtis is a West Michigan native who had a long career as an outfielder for six teams, including the Detroit Tigers.

Lakewood Public Schools issued this statement on its website --

"Mr. Curtis served as an unpaid volunteer in the weight room and was slated to serve as the varsity football coach for the 2012-2013 school year. Mr. Curtis was immediately removed from his weight room supervisory duties when allegations of inappropriate touching of female students were presented. Mr. Curtis submitted his resignation as the 2012-2013 varsity football coach."

Since the allegations surfaced Curtis has talked only with 24 Hour News 8's Leon Hendrix. Here is an excerpt from their conversation on May 4 --

Leon: "Did you touch anyone inappropriately? I want to ask you that directly."

Chad: "I don't have anything to say. You'll have to talk to my attorney other than that."

Leon: "So you don't want to answer to if you touched anyone inappropriately?"

Chad: "I don't believe I touched anyone inappropriately and so that's the only statement I'll make on that. I care about my community and I care about my students and that's all I have to say, thank you."

The Barry County Sheriff's Department released a statement on Thursday --

"Please be advised that we have an ongoing criminal investigation involving Mr. Curtis. So for the time being our position is 'no comment'.
