EL PASO, Tex. (WOOD) - Authorities say the person they believe robbed an elderly Barry County woman at gunpoint has been shot and killed after a chase in west Texas.
Daniel John Myers, 47, led El Paso, Texas police on a chase in a stolen vehicle just before 3 a.m. MT Friday, according to a a release from Michigan State Police.
He eventually stopped the car and fled on foot through the desert. Three El Paso police officers and a US Border Patrol Agent chased him.
Myers was hiding behind a garage type building when, police say, he jumped out and began exchanging gunfire the four officers.
He was shot and killed. None of the officers were hurt.
"There were overtures made by him early on in this investigation that he was not going to go peacefully," said MSP Lt. Chuck Christensen. "And we took it so serious that in our conversations with other Michigan State Police department members not to approach him without the appropriate personnel, such as the ES Team members, which is the equivalent of a SWAT team."
Police say Myers robbed a 91-year-old woman at gunpoint at her Assyria Township home on Jan. 29.
After identifying him as a suspect, detectives learned he had left West Michigan, where he was wanted on two counts of armed robbery, felony firearm and being a habitual offender.
He was also a suspect in a home invasion in Kent County, and two vehicle thefts in Caro, which is located in the thumb of Michigan.
