PLAINWELL, Mich. (WOOD) - A 45-year-old man is in police custody after the death of a woman on West Grant Street in Plainwell around 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Paramedics tried to revive the 38-year-old woman in what they believed to be a medical emergency. She was passed out when they arrived, and despite their efforts, died at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Amy Hartman. She was originally identified by her maiden name of Kortokrax.
Michigan State Police records show that the man being held is Jeffery Robert Witt.
A Wednesday afternoon release from the Plainwell Department of Public Safety indicated that a man was being held for questioning, but state records show that Witt was arrested on a felony homicide charge.
A neighbor of the victim told 24 Hour News 8 that Witt was Hartman's live-in boyfriend.
Family members and neighbors told 24 Hour News 8 they never saw any signs of violence or abuse between the two. They said they were both very nice people.
The Allegan County Sheriff Department is also involved in the investigation.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday in Lansing.
Witt will also likely be arraigned Thursday.
