WAYLAND, Mich. (WOOD) - A portion of 135th Avenue in Wayland was closed in both directions Friday evening because of a gas leak.
Residents in the 700 block of 135th told 24 Hour News 8 that a work crew laying fiber optic cable struck a gas line around 7 p.m. That line is owned and operated by Michigan Gas Utility.
One home was evacuated due to the concentration of natural gas in the air, but that resident was allowed back in their home Friday night.
A Michigan Gas Utility spokesman said the line was repaired around 9:15 p.m.
Traffic was rerouted around the area before the road was reopened soon after 9:30 p.m.
