ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) - The former Watson Township treasurer was sentenced to a year in jail Friday for embezzling money she then lost at a casino.
Stephanie Bogdan will also have to pay back tens of thousands of dollars.
She was convicted of embezzling the township's money and using it at the Gun Lake Casino. Bogdan faced up to five years in prison.
In December 2011, Allegan County detective Len Mathis testified his investigation uncovered about $51,000 had been missing since February 2011. Mathis said Bogdan also had a player's card at the Gun Lake Casino, where the card's net loss was about $49,000.
In the some 250 days that the casino has been open, Det. Mathis continued, Bogdan had been in the casino 162 days.
