Driver sentenced in killed groom crash

ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) - The driver of a car that vaulted 40 feet through the air and into the second story of a house, killing a groom-to-be and his future brother-in-law, has been sentenced to 3 years and 2 months to 15 years in prison.

Jeffrey Hinds originally pleaded no contest to reckless driving causing death on March 28.

In January, he was arraigned on six felony counts in connection with the deaths of Chad Bradbury and Michael Stille of Holland. Among those charges were operating while intoxicated causing death and another count of reckless driving causing death.

Bradbury, 24, and 22-year-old Stille were killed on Sept. 29 after the SUV that Hinds--also the best man--was driving crashed into a house on 146th Avenue in Fillmore Township.

At the time, police on the scene said the Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling westbound on 146th Avenue near 60th Street at a high rate of speed. It crossed over the center line, passed through a grassy area and hit a small hill, and then vaulted through the air for at least 40 feet into the second story of a house.

Bradbury was engaged to Stille's sister, Samantha. The wedding was scheduled for Oct. 1 -- two days after the accident. Stille would have been a groomsman.

The judge told Hinds that he was given a second chance and urged him to honor the victims by turning his life around.
