ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) - An Allegan man has been arrested in connection to a string of about 80 thefts from vehicles.
Ken Snippe, 21, was arrested Tuesday after an officer located him around 1:30 a.m. on a bicycle at the intersection of Spruce and Cherry streets in Allegan, according to Allegan Police Chief Rick Hoyer.
The officer talked to Snippe and noticed the soles of the bicyclist's shoes were consistent with footprints found at previous crime scenes.
While interviewing Snippe, the officer received a dispatch call to a nearby larceny from a vehicle. Details of that crime tied Snippe as the suspect, and he was arrested at this time.
Snippe is cooperating with the case, Chief Hoyer said.
Snippe is believed to have been involved in about 65 larcenies from vehicles within the city of Allegan and 15 others elsewhere in the county, all of which occurred during a three-week period.
He was arraigned Wednesday on one count of larceny from an automobile. Four felonies (from the 65 crimes) also have been authorized. More charges are likely as police finalize details in the other larcenies, Hoyer said.
