VALLEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A suspect who led deputies on an off-road car and then foot chase had been using methamphetamine, Allegan County authorities say.

Around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday in Valley Township, according to the Allegan County Sheriff's Department, a deputy saw a driver disobey a stop sign.

The suspect failed to pull over and continued on through another stop sign at a T-intersection.

The suspect then drove off-road through a wooded area before the vehicle was stopped by trees and snow.

A passenger in the vehicle stayed in the car, but the driver ran away.

Deputies tracked the suspect to an outbuilding at a nearby shooting range, where the suspect was found on top of the skeet range house and arrested.

Further investigation discovered the suspect had been awake for several days using meth, authorities say, and that he had "shot up" with the drug just before the incident.

The Hamilton Fire Department assisted by using a thermal imaging device to the detect the suspect's heat signature.
