PULLMAN, Mich. (WOOD) - A 45-year-old man was arraigned on several counts on Friday following an unarmed robbery.
On Feb. 7, a 57-year-old man from Pullman agreed to purchase an air compressor from Stephon Freeman Stanfill after he approached the victim at a restaurant.
Stanfill told the victim that he needed to drive him to a residence in order to get the air compressor, but when they arrived the victim became suspicious and changed his mind.
Stanfill then asked the victim to drive him to a friend's house. As they continued down the road, Stanfill struck the victim on the right side of his head and attempted to put the truck into park and shove the victim out of the driver's door.
But the victim was able to fight back and remained in the truck. Stanfill then pulled the victim's wallet from his jacket and stole over $200 cash before fleeing from the truck.
The victim drove himself to an area medical center, but had to be taken to Allegan General Hospital for treatment of his head wound.
After a couple of days of investigation, the suspect was identified and arrested on other outstanding warrants.
Stanfill was arraigned in 57th District Court on several counts including unarmed robbery, assault with intent to rob while unarmed, larceny, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder of which Stanfill was a habitual offender.
