OTSEGO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A man who was allegedly smoking crack while driving led police on a brief chase in Allegan County Monday morning.
The incident started around 10:40 p.m. when two Michigan State Police troopers attempted to pull over a vehicle in Otsego Township for an equipment violation, according to MSP. The driver, however, failed to stop.
Assisting Allegan County sheriff's deputies attempted to deploy Stop Sticks, but that attempt failed.
As the vehicle passed, a deputy saw the driver smoking what he thought was a crack pipe.
The suspect driver stopped of his own volition not far beyond where the deputies had attempted to stop him.
The 34-year-old Plainwell man was arrested and now faces charges of operating while intoxicated - drugs, resisting and obstructing police, fourth-degree fleeing and eluding police and possession of cocaine.
He remains lodged in the Allegan County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
