Ice cream fundraiser for injured baby

Ayla is still in the hospital, but out of the ICU

Walker, Mich. (WOOD) - A business and a community plan to come together Sunday as a 9-month-old continues to recover from traumatic injuries.

All proceeds raised Sunday between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Scoops Ice Cream Shoppe in Walker will go to Ayla Marie Shuart's family to help pay for her medical bills.

Police started investigating on October 3 when the infant's mother called police after she noticed the baby having seizures.

Prosecutors charged her mother's boyfriend Nathaniel Sweet for hurting the girl -- who had skull and rib fractures.

The owner of Scoops, Emily Griesa, only knows Ayla because her fiance grew up with the girl's mom. The couple has been following Ayla's recovery on Facebook and want to help.

Scoops is on Remembrance Road in Walker. The business will deliver ice cream to Ayla and her mom at the hospital on Sunday.
