GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The U.S. Department of Transportation has released the Michigan 2012 Transparency Report of locations exhibiting severe safety problems, and many West Michigan roadways are included on the list.
The "5 Percent Report" for the Federal Highway Administration is required by federal law, which demands state identify safety problems and provide resolutions to those problems. It was prepared by the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Several Grand Rapids-area ramps and stretches of road are listed in the report. All have seen multiple accidents. A few have seen fatalities.

Included on the report are plans to improve the safety of the "hazardous locations," along with potential costs and problems.

Michigan has about 122,000 miles of public road, 92% of which are handled by local municipalities, according to the report.
