GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A man was shot in the buttocks inside a Grand Rapids nightclub in the early hours of New Year's Day, turning the event chaotic.
The shooting happened around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday at The Orbit Room, and police believe the person shot was not the intended victim. The shooter, police said, was arguing with one man and intended to shoot him, but ended up shooting another person instead.
Authorities believed the shooter was on a party bus headed to Kalamazoo. But when they stopped the bus, the suspected shooter was not on board.
A witness to the shooting told 24 Hour News 8 he heard one gunshot in the club and then the scene became chaotic. It's believed there were between 700 to 800 people inside The Orbit Room at the time of the shooting.
The victim was hospitalized with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
The investigation into the shooting and the search for the shooter continues.
