BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) - The new sign at FireKeepers Casino near Battle Creek was installed Friday, taking another step toward a summer 2009 opening.
The sign was made by Valley City Signs of Comstock Park.
Members of the tribal council of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi were on hand to look at the new sign for the first time. A representative of Valley City Signs and casino executives were also present.
The sign is 50 feet tall, 30 feet wide, and 8 feet deep, and weighs more than 10 tons.
It is lit up by more than 43,000 full color LEDs on each side that are energy efficient. Casino officials say it only costs $17.59 per day to power the sign.
They are anticipating opening the casino this summer. The property is located at 11177 Michigan Avenue near exit 104 on I-94.
