PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - Ric Perry, the superintendent of the Portage Public Schools, was suspended with pay immediately for having "an inappropriate relationship with a district employee."
The announcement was made in a release by Bo Snyder, the president of the Portage Board of Education.
In the statement, Snyder said Perry was in "material breach of his contract" and that the board was unable to "negotiate a mutual separation agreement."
The board suspended Perry with pay and will provide him the chance to have a hearing before the board.
Perry became Portage superintendent in July 2011. At that same time, Rob Olsen became assistant superintendent. The board named Olsen to the post of acting superintendent.
