GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Grand Rapids students got out of a portable, manufactured building and into a state-of-the-art, LEED certified facility as the new Blandford School opened Monday.

In what was called a "green carpet event," GRPS Superintendent Teresa Weatherall Neal, members of the GRPS Board of Education and others cut the ribbon on the building at 3143 Milo Avenue NW.

It's the first traditional Grand Rapids public school built mostly with private donations, district officials said in a release.

Others who attended the ceremony were members of The Wege Foundation, Progressive AE, Rockford Construction and, of course, the students who attend Blandford.

The new school will be used by both the students and the community.
