GRCC-GVSU have path to MSU med school

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Grand Rapids Community College students who transfer to a premed program at GVSU may have an easier path to be admitted to the MSU College of Human Medicine after an agreement between the three schools was signed Monday.

The Early Assurance Program, or EAP, "will provide an enhanced opportunity for admission to medical school for GRCC students transferring to GVSU as pre-medical students who are interested in serving traditionally underserved populations," the schools announced in a press release.

In the fall of 2011, the MSU College of Human Medicine received more than 6250 applications for the 200 spots available in this program. The addition of GRCC and GVSU brings the total to 13 colleges and universities taking part in the EAP.

Over the past two years, GRCC identified 470 pre-med students, officials said.

The three schools have already begun working on aligning advising information and curriculum.
