BATON ROUGE, La. (WOOD) - Grand Rapids Superintendent Bernard Taylor has been hired as the new superintendent of East Baton Rouge Parish schools.
According to The Advocate, a Louisiana newspaper, Taylor was hired in a unanimous vote by the school board after a seven-month search. The Advocate says that East Baton Rouge is the second-largest district in Louisiana.
Taylor went on a study leave from his duties as the Grand Rapids superintendent in January, though he had already been set to leave the district at the end of the year.
Teresa Weatherall-Neal, who has been with the district for more than 30 years, has taken over as interim superintendent and has an 18-month contract with the district.
