GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - December 29, 2012.

This is a deadline on the minds of many who rely on federal unemployment insurance. Those receiving the funds will get cut off and they are fearful about what they'll do next if Congress does not extend the deadline.

Ann Dunlop has been unemployed for more than a year; unable to get back to work. She wants Congress to extend the deadline; otherwise, her situation could become much worse.

"I think it is an emergency; you can't have what I imagine are hundreds of thousands of people suddenly with no income and no savings," Dunlop said.

There are many issues for Congress to address in a post-election, pre-holiday crunch to get done.

Congressman Bill Huizenga's staff answered 24 Hour News 8's request for comment on the deadline saying --

" Congressman Huizenga looks forward to working with leaders of both parties to provide clarity on this important issue, as well as, achieving tax certainty and ensuring the fiscal cliff is addressed in a responsible manner."

The State of Michigan still provides up to 20 weeks of unemployment funds for those who qualify.
