MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) - 24 Hour News 8 shopped at Meijer, Target and Walmart in the Muskegon area to find the best deals on school supplies for high school students.

We chose three of the most expensive things most high schoolers need: a graphing calculator, computer storage flash drive and backpack.

Some students need Texas Instruments graphing calculators, that can cost $100 or more, for classes like Statistics.

In the weeks leading up to school, these calculators are on sale:

TI-83 Calculator
Meijer: $80
Walmart: $80
Target: $80.99
Amazon.com (new): $94.50
Amazon.com (used): $34.50

Most students need computer storage flash drives to save papers or projects. These can get expensive if you don't know what you need. A four gigabyte flash drive is all a student should need if they are using it only for school -- simple documents, spread sheets or PDFs.

4GB Flash drives
Walmart $9.89
Meijer $9.99
Target $9.99

Here are the price ranges for backpacks at area stores right now:

Backpacks
Walmart: $17-$49.96
Target: $17.99-$63.99
Meijer: $19.99-$55
