LAKETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A teenager was killed in a crash early Saturday morning in Allegan County, and police say foggy weather at the time was a factor.

Sheriffs deputies tell 24 Hour News 8 that the driver, 18-year-old Jeremy James Plachta, from Holland, ran off the road and hit a tree shortly before 1:30 Saturday. The accident happened on 66th Street south of 144th Avenue in Laketown Township.

Plachta was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a student at Grand Valley State University, according to his Facebook page.

Another passenger, identified only as a 19-year-old Holland man, was not seriously injured.

Police said it appears that Plachta drove off the road and hit the tree after failing to negotiate a turn due to foggy conditions at the time of the crash.

The accident is being investigated by the Allegan County Accident Reconstruction team

Visitation for Jeremy Plachta will be Tuesday at Dykstra Funeral Home's Mulder Chapel in Holland from 2-4 p.m. and from 6:30-9 p.m.

His funeral is set for Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Holland.
