GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The winner of the inaugural Connecting With Community Award was honored Thursday night.
A big crowd gathered at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids for the event.
The award goes to a collaborative effort that makes a positive impact in West Michigan.
WOOD TV8, along with our community partners -- Grand Rapids Community College, Huntington Bank, and Metro Health -- created the award to highlight good things happening that change our communities for the better.
Eight finalists were recognized for programs that support families in need, empower seniors through therapy, provide free eye care services, fire safety training and much more.
T.E.A.M. 21 "worked with four different school districts, non-profits and the Wyoming Parks and Recreation Department," WOOD TV8 Communications Director Eva Aguirre Cooper said as she announced the winner to the stage at the event.
"Right here, in this room, is what America is all about -- business to business, neighbor to neighbor, friend to friend, walking along side...helping," said WOOD TV8 President and General Manager Diane Kniowski.
