GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - - Family members and friends of a teen who confessed to murder say the teen is innocent.
The 16-year-old boy admitted to killing Abelino Jeronimo Ramos, 17, in November of last year.
Police say he crashed his car near Clyde Park and Grandville early Thursday morning, called 911 to report it, then called again to say he murdered Ramos.
24 Hour News 8 spoke with the teen's grandmother who says her
grandson is "a good boy" and that he wouldn't have killed anyone.
She says her grandson now has an attorney. She says he now says he
actually didn't kill Ramos.
"He was a good kid, quiet kid you know... just real quiet,"
said a friend who identified himself as "Slim." "Not to hurt nobody
type of kid ... I still can't believe it."
The Grand Rapids Press reports that police say the young man is now 'recanting' and 'back-pedaling' on his admissions.
Police are continuing their investigation into the homicide. The family told 24 Hour News 8 Thursday that they had not been contacted by police regarding the latest developments.
