Man impaled climbing into own apartment

A man suffered critical injuries Tuesday night when he was impaled trying to get into his apartment.

According to police, the man misplaced his keys and tried to climb over the fence at the Stuyvesant Apartments at Cherry and Madsion, where he lives. One of the fence stiles stabbed him in the leg.

Grand Rapids police, fire and medical personnel all worked to free the man around 11 p.m. He was then taken to Saint Mary's Hospital, and his injuries are considered life threatening.
