Driver crosses I-196 median, dies

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The driver of a car that crossed the median at I-196 near Market Avenue in Grand Rapids and collided with a van died at the scene late Monday afternoon.

The driver was traveling west and crossed over into the eastbound traffic, police said.

The driver of the van was also injured in the collision.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were shut down for some time and westbound traffic was very slow as authorities investigated the incident.

Police have not released the victims' identities yet.
