Fatal crash in Northern Kent Co.

CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich (WOOD) - A Sand Lake man was killed in a single car crash on Coan Street near the intersection of Ritchie Street in Nelson Township.

Robert Edwin Norton, the 31-year-old driver, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Saturday evening.

Norton's 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling west on Coan street when police say he drifted off the road, hitting a mailbox on the north side.

His vehicle apparently lost control and skidded back to the south side of the road where it hit a large tree.

The accident happened at about 10:50 p.m.

Norton was driving by himself. Icy road conditions at the time may have played a part in the accident.
