GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP)- - Richard and Helen DeVos, who previously donated millions to various schools, pledged $10 million to the Grand Rapids Christian Schools.

GRCS Superintendent Tom DeJonge told 24 Hour News 8 the school district was notified of the gift through a series of letters between the board and the DeVos family.

The donation would be "allocated toward the elimination of our schools debt," DeJonge said, which is estimated to be in the neighborhood of $12 million.

DeJonge added GRCS has had "a long, on-going relationship with the DeVos family" and that their gift was "significant. This is a very significant gift that will allow our board to move forward from a position of strength."

The superintendent said that the DeVos family pledged the money with "no strings attached" and that the family "was not seeking any personal glory."
