CENTREVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - The parents of 16-year-old Calista Springer, the St. Joseph County girl who died whlie chained to her bed in a 2008 house fire, are set to appear in court Wednesday on murder charges.
Anthony Springer and Marsha Springer, the girl's stepmother, are scheduled for a preliminary hearing. They are each charged with felony murder, torture and first-degree child abuse. Calista Springer was found dead after a house fire at the family's Centreville home February 27, 2008.
Prosecutors recently amended the charges. The Springers had previously been charged with manslaughter. The current charges carry a maximum penalty of life in prison.
