MARSHALL, Mich. (WOOD) - Representatives from the Michigan Attorney General's office say their criminal division is considering whether to get involved in the case of a missing Marshall woman.
The parents of Mary Lands asked the Attorney General's office to
investigate her disappearance on March 12, 2004.
A spokesperson for the Attorney General's office told 24 Hour
News 8 they received a faxed copy of the family's request last
week. They say their criminal division is considering whether to
get involved. The spokesperson says they do not know how long it
will take to reach a decision.
Mary Lands' boyfriend told police she went for a walk and never
returned. Police said early on they thought the 39-year-old was the
victim of foul play. But after five years, her case still hasn't
been solved, with no trace of where she might have gone or no bank
account or credit card activity.
Now her family says someone else needs to take over the
investigation.
Clifford and Mary Marshall contacted 24 Hour News 8 on
Tuesday, telling us they have now sent a letter to Mike Cox,
Michigan's Attorney General. In the letter they wrote, "For all
these years we have let the Police investigate our daughter's
disappearance and have publicly remained quiet, now we are standing
up and speaking out to ask for help in finding our daughter. We do
not feel that the Marshall Police Department has the training,
experience or resources to find our daughter and we are asking that
they turn the complete investigation over to an agency that does.
… "For over 4 years and 7 months we have sat back and waited
for the system to work for our daughter, it has failed Mary and our
family."
24 Hour News 8 has contacted the Marshall Police Department
for comment.
