KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - Two females were arrested following two separate incidents involving large crowds Tuesday night in Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. to the 700 block of N. Westnedge Ave. That is where police say a large group gathered and some females began to fight.
The crowd disbursed when officers arrived. One woman was arrested for possession of marijuana and excessive noise.
A short time later a 17-year-old woman who was part of the crowd returned to the area. Two officers saw her approach another group and tried to assault a female.
The officers attempted to arrest the teen but she resisted while trying to conceal something in her coat. After a brief struggle the officers subdued her and recovered a 12-inch-long, serrated knife from a sleeve of her coat.
The officers received minor cuts during the struggle.
The teen was arrested for fighting, resisting and obstructing an officer, and possession of a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent. She was taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail pending formal charges after review of this incident by the prosecutor’s office.
