GIRARD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - State police told 24 Hour News 8 DeeDee Foley, a second-grade teacher at Union City Elementary School, was shot to death and the case is a homicide. She was shot in the head.

Police say Foley's husband found her body at 5:20 p.m. Saturday in their home on East Girard Road in Girard Township.

According to investigators, they have "a lot of evidence...a lot of things being processed" and this is a "complex investigation."

Foley, 41, had been a teacher in the district for 19 years.

"It's just very shocking for us, very hard to believe," he said. She's been a big part of our community. She's been a teacher, coach, parent, graduate," district superintendent Patrick Kreger said.

Foley leaves behind a husband and a son who is in the fourth grade at the school.

Counselors were brought in to assist the students.
