Teeka came back to Golden Years through no fault of her own.

Big puppies need much training when it comes to house rules. They have to be taught what is acceptable and what is not, but the owner needs to have reasonable expectations.

In Teeka's case she was expected to just "know" not to chew on expensive shoes or children's toys rather than keeping these things out of her reach -- similar to training a toddler once they start walking.

Teeka is one of the pups from the litter born in the shelter's building in August 2007. She is now 4 years old and still very much an active dog.

She weighs about 75 pounds and the staff is sure she is done growing.

Since she is so big and strong she should go to a home with older kids who are used to big dogs, as well as owners willing to take the necessary time to teach her the house rules and acceptable behavior, and then reinforce the training for the rest of her life.

She is an expert escape artist -- digging under fencing or tearing the bottom of her kennel gate at the shelter -- so she will need Malamute-proof containment.

She is house-trained and good with most other dogs but the staff isn't sure how she would do with a cat.

She will definitely need to go through a class in basic obedience to harness that energy she seems to never run out of.

She is spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on her shots.

She is wonderful at public events and loves the attention from the crowds.

She was at Pet Palooza in June 2011 and was doing fine until she found out there was a kiddy pool there so dogs could cool their feet. She took over the pool!

She is the extreme water dog -- she must have gotten that trait from her hound dog father as her mom is a gorgeous Malamute that prefers to be clean and dry.
