GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - He's an Emmy Award winning actor, well-known improvisational comedian and a television host, but appearing in one sketch on a famous comedy show has caused Wayne Brady some annoyance when fans scream lines from the sketch.
"I will be completely honest with you, it's really cool that people will come up and either say, 'Does Wayne Brady have to choke a b----' or 'I'm Wayne Brady, b----'. But what may be a compliment to you yelling that across the hall to me as a guy, just sitting here, that is odd. Also I'm in a business where nobody just wants to be associated with one thing because then that becomes your '70s sitcom catchphrase. There are days when I go, 'Really? Why did the 8-year-old on Twitter just write 'Does Wayne Brady have to choke a b----'? Oh God, really?" Brady said during a press conference Tuesday.
Brady was in Grand Rapids for a Gilda's LaughFest 2013 appearance at DeVos Place. He described the show as an improvisational and music program.

"It's all improvisational; all off the top of the head, all done right there in the moment. I don't know what's going to happen. There will be music I'm sure because I've got a keyboardist with me, so it'd be a shame to pay for his ticket and not have him work," Brady said.
Brady didn't hesitate to help out Gilda's Club of Grand Rapids with LaughFest.
"I've done a couple events in the past for Gilda's Club and this is actually something that it means something to every single person who is helped and touched by Gilda's Club," he said. "I've had my grandfather, my aunt and an ex-girlfriend all touched by cancer. And I know firsthand how tough it can be having nowhere to go or your family being impacted. So there really wasn't much hesitation on my part when the phone rang and asked if I could come on out. It was pretty much a 'Can you come do LaughFest? YES!'"
Brady has been a staple on television for over 15 years; starting with his appearances on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" on ABC. The show is returning to network television this summer.
Brady said he is excited to be bringing back "one of the funniest shows on TV ever."
"You had people running at full-steam, using 100% mental power, creating stuff out of nothing which was really refreshing because we were around during the start of the reality TV phase. And now to be distanced this many years later knowing where reality TV has taken us, people are ready for funny that isn't canned laughter, that's not some guy in a weird suit doing something that isn't Honey Boo Boo slapping her belly. It's good old-fashioned funny," he said.
Brady, an executive producer of the reboot, will be on stage with fellow alum Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie and a revolving fourth person. Brady has a few people in mind he would love to see in that chair. Besides Robin Williams and Howie Mandel, there's one music sensation/variety show guest he worked with back in 2001 he'd love to have on the show.
"I would love to get Justin Timberlake on. My daughter [and I were] watching his guest appearance [on Saturday Night Live] just last weekend. It just shows Justin has a true love for comedy and he's good at it. So if we could get Justin on, that'd be a real score. So don't think the phone calls haven't been made," he said. "Justin, we want you."
