GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Event officials said Thursday night they broke a Guinness Book of World Records benchmark when 925 rubber chickens were tossed to launch LaughFest at Rosa Parks Circle.
The previous record for chicken tossers was 265, set outside of Boston in April 2010.
"I never thought I would have a chance to throw a chicken," said Emily Eggerding, a participant.
Added Heidi Trumble: "Grand Rapids is hopping again -- much better than it's ever been."
The LaughFest opening sponsor party also kicked off Thursday evening at The B.O.B. Tickets were $50 for the party, which launched the 10-day comedy festival that serves as a fundraiser for Gilda's Club Grand Rapids.
LaughFest began after nearly two years of planning.
LaughScat also took place at several downtown-area restaurants. Comedians roamed among the locations to entertain diners, starting at 8:30 p.m.
"It would make (Gilda) happy because she loved making people smile (and) making people laugh," said Michael Radner, her brother. "And that's what LaughFest is doing."
