GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - John Waters, the eclectic and iconoclastic filmmaker of "Pink Flamingos" and "Hairspray" among others, will present a one-man show at the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre as part of the ArtPrize Speaker Series.

The autobiographical show "This Filthy World" looks at his varied career, his artistic influences and his fascination with the themes he's mined over the years: true crime, fashion and art extremes.

The 66-year-old Baltimore native is a member of the Motion Pictures Academy of Arts and Sciences. He's a well-known photographer and has written Shock Value, Crackpot, Pink Flamingos and Other Trash, Hairspray, Female Trouble and Multiple Maniacs.

The show is scheduled for September 25. Tickets go on sale August 27.

The ArtPrize 2012 Speaker Series also includes critic Jerry Saltz, artist Theaster Gates, curator Alison Gass and artist Elaine Tin Nyo. Those events will be held at the Historic Federal Building on the campus of Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids.

ArtPrize begins September 19 and runs through October 7.
