Film coming to West Michigan in August

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Coopersville High School will serve as the main filming location for "Touchback," which is set for production in West Michigan this summer.

"Touchback," starring Brian Presley and written/directed by Don Handfield, will film around the city of Coopersville and on the football field starting next month. Some key scenes are set for Aug. 13, 16 and 17.

The producers hope for 2,000 extras filling the stadium stands Aug. 13. They encourage those who can come only one of the three nights to attend Friday.

Producers will need 1,000 to 1,500 extras on the following Monday and Tuesday nights. The approximate hours will be 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. with refreshments, entertainment and prize drawings.

Crews from the sports drama also are looking for experienced football players to cast as extras.

Players ages 18-30 are being called for casting in the football-themed fantasy about getting a second chance at life. At the brink of financial disaster, a former football-star-turned-farmer and family man attempts suicide to save his family.

However, when he wakes up, he finds himself in the past, reliving the events that led up to his career-ending, life-altering injury. He is forced to choose between his simple life and the path to fame and fortune.

Prospective players should not be seeking NCAA eligibility through a college program. Some positions are paid and players will need to sign up and register online with the casting company Sports Studio, which focuses on getting athletes into movies.

Those interested are invited to e-mail the extras coordinator for more information.
