COOPERSVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - Hundreds of extras flocked to the Coopersville High School football stadium Thursday night to participate in a shoot for the film "Touchback," starring Kurt Russell.
Thursday's scenes started filming around 9:30 p.m. The shoot was supposed to wrap around 2 a.m. Friday, but it went much longer - finally ending around 7 a.m.
"Touchback," is a high school football drama. The movie is about a high school football star who gets injured in a game, but then gets a chance to relive that moment, and choose a different life.
WOODTV.com movie blogger Aaron Lafferty talked to actor Kurt Russell Thursday night. Russell plays a coach in the movie.
"It's fun [being in a small town]," Russell said. "This [movie] is a very sweet story, it's about small town values." Russell said he was hoping to get some time this weekend to spend in West Michigan.
Former Detroit Lions Running Back Barry Sanders plays a coach in "Touchback" - his first appearance in a movie. He talked about the differences between preparing for an NFL game, and the movie.
"The difference is for the movie, I didn't have to prepare at all," Sanders told 24 Hour News 8. "No wind springs, no hours of film. We'll see how it turns out."
If you want to be an extra Friday night, the shoot starts at 7 p.m. If you are one of the first 500 people to register at JR Galactic , you will be paid $75. Extras need to wear yellow and black clothing. 3,000 extras are needed for the crowd shots Friday.
