GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Colleagues, friends and fans joined in a rollicking radio tribute to WOOD Radio's Rick Beckett Monday, just days after he died at 54 of a heart attack.
Beckett's co-host Scott Winters anchored the tribute, that included co-workers Phil Tower, WOOD Radio Program Director Angie Vuyst and others, plus phone callers and fans.
Beckett's girlfriend Deb Lowe shared her thoughts and memories, as did others who knew him well. The listeners of the Rick & Scott Show also chimed in with their memories.
Winters said Beckett's wishes were to not have any kind of funeral service. This on-air tribute was put together over the weekend, and Winters said Beckett would have thought that was too much.
Dozens of people called in, all recounting various Beckett stories. Most everyone shared in the joy of his life's work, and rarely dwelled on his passing.
Winters repeatedly reminded listeners "this is the last Rick & Scott Show," but did not elaborate on future plans.
