IMAX coming to Portage cinema

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - The world's most immersive movie experience is coming to Celebration! Cinema Crossroads in Portage in 2012.

Construction on a new IMAX movie screen will begin as soon as November and should be complete in late spring.

The nearly $2.5-million project includes raising a portion of the roof of the theatre, moving a wall, and installation of a state-of-the-art digital projection and sound package.

"We are thrilled to be able to bring such a dynamic entertainment experience to the community," Todd Hiler, general manager of the Celebration! Cinema Crossroads location, said in a news release. "Our guests are going to have access to the most powerful movie-going experience there is. The digital images and sound are unequaled. We can't wait to see the audience reactions."

Some of the movies scheduled to come to the IMAX in Portage include:

• Dark Shadows (3D) -- 5/11/2012
• Men In Black 3 (3D) -- 5/25/2012
• The Amazing Spider Man (3D) -- 7/03/2012
• The Dark Knight Rises -- 7/20/2012

This will be the third such setup in Michigan. The other two are currently at Celebration! Cinema North in Grand Rapids and Celebration! Lansing.
